Support Newton businesses so they thrive in our town

To the Editor,

Monday was Presidents Day, and there was no school in Newton. The Capitol 2 theater was open for matinees that day, so I took my son, niece and nephew. Figuring the place would be packed with kids, imagine my disbelief when I realized we were the only ones there. You hear people complain that there is nothing to do in Newton, but when you don’t support the local businesses, how can they survive? I realize the Des Moines movie theaters have more options and newer facilities, but the theater here is cheaper and local. I find it very sad that the theater opened for Newton kids but the consideration was not reciprocated. Please support your local businesses.

Kids don't have $10 (average cost including refreshments)to go to the movies. Some local business overcharge for products, a captive audience
