Harold Marvin Thomas, 88, of Urbandale, formerly of Newton, died Wednesday, Feb, 15, 2012, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.
Harold was born Sept. 28, 1923, to Raymond and Edna Thomas. He farmed with his family for many years and then worked at Parsons & Koehring Mfg in Newton. He retired from Midwest Mfg. in Kellogg in 1986. During this time, Harold mowed part time for many years for many people. It was with this extra income that he and his wife, Susie, were able to spend many wonderful days at the Knoxville Raceway.
Harold was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and belonged to the Men’s Club. He was an avid Hawkeye fan and enjoyed watching sports, especially car racing and professional wrestling.
Harold is survived by his daughter, Carol Thomas; sisters, Helen Garbe, Coleen (Ron) Henderson, Beverly Iske, and Sharon (Jack) Starmer; brother, Melvin (Rose) Thomas; and many other loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Susie Thomas in 2007; granddaughter, Danielle Rae Thomas; sisters, Dorothy Brashear and Wilma Wright; and brother, Howard Thomas.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 3600 75th Street, Urbandale. Burial will occur at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be given to Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
