Donald McGriff, 77, of Baxter died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, at ALJ Assisted Living Home in Phoenix, Ariz.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery in Baxter. Memorials in Donald’s name may be left at the funeral home.
The son of Caroline Platt Borton, Donald was born June 13, 1934, in Chicago, Ill. On July 23, 1963, he was united in marriage with Shirley A. McGriff in Las Vegas, Nev.
Donald and Shirley made their home in many locations around the United States before settling in Baxter, Iowa, in December of 1975.
Donald attended Alexandria Technical School and received 20 years of Naval education. Donald was retired from the Navy. He was a member of the VFW, NRA and American Legion.
Survivors include his children, Christy (David) Mulert of Owatonna, Minn., Marcella (Craig) Brechler of Phoenix, Ariz., Jason (Diane) McGriff of Tiffin and Donald Kenneth (Jonell) McGriff of Georgetown, Texas; nine grandchildren, Mitchell Mulert, Kadyn Mulert, Ellen Brechler, Evelyn Brechler, Jessica Brechler Whittier, Corgan McGriff, Reese McGriff, Donald McGriff, and Katherine McGriff-Pitts; and his brothers and sisters, Ciriin Longergan, Michael (Priscilla) McGriff, and Roxy (James) Hazelton.
He was preceded in death by his mother; his wife, Shirley A. McGriff in September of 2011; and a granddaughter, Hannah Brechler.
