• Timmy D. Mattingly, 20, of Newton was charged with driving while license suspended at 7 p.m. Saturday after a traffic stop at the intersection of Highway F48 and Thomas Jefferson. According to a police report, authorities stopped Mattingly’s vehicle for an inoperable brake light. Police said that records indicated the subject’s driver’s license was suspended for a serious violation. Mattingly also was charged with unlawful use of a driver’s license and was released to appear in court.

• Tanneeah R. Fleming, 32, of Newton was charged with driving while license suspended at 4:10 p.m. Sunday. According to a police report, Fleming was stopped for speeding in the 1000 block of Highway 14 South. Police said the subject’s vehicle was traveling 57 mph in the 45 mph zone. Iowa Department of Transportation records revealed that she was suspended for non-payment of Iowa fines. Fleming was given a warning for speeding and released to appear in court.

• Nathan L. Bagur, 29, of Marshalltown was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated at 11:27 p.m. Sunday. According to a police report, an officer stopped Bagur’s vehicle in the 100 block of East Eighth Street North after license plate information showed the automobile’s owner to be under suspension. Police said Bagur had an odor of alcohol coming from his breath and that he had watery, bloodshot eyes during the stop. A chemical test showed Bagur’s blood alcohol content to be .086. He was placed in the Jasper County Jail.

• A two-vehicle accident near Colfax injured two juveniles Monday after their 1997 Jeep SUV collided head on with another driver crossing the highway’s center line to avoid a deer. According to a report from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, 16-year-old Garrett Cook of Newton and his 11-year-old passenger, Lindsey Sue Campbell of Mingo, were taken to Skiff Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Both of the juveniles were trapped after the crash, and authorities had to use the jaws of life to free Cook and Campbell resident. The accident occurred at the 8100 block of North 19th Avenue East when Justin James Altemeier, 38, of Newton swerved while traveling westbound to avoid a deer that had crossed the highway at 7:29 a.m. He told police he positioned his car on the south side of the roadway as Cook came to the crest of the hill. Altemeier said he moved to the free lane, but Cook moved as well. As both drivers moved back to their correct lanes they collided. Officials said that the juveniles were transported to the hospital via Jasper County ambulance after their parents arrived on scene. No citations were issued as a result of the crash, and Cook told police that Altemeier was not at fault during the incident. Altemeier sustained no injuries.
