Volunteering helps community
To the Editor,
There are many who could but don’t. There are many who would but won’t. They do not realize what they are missing with this one pass through life.
Many people are discouraged in their thoughts because Newton does not have Maytag anymore. There are those who volunteer their time and/or willing hands and hearts to helping others, and they are the benefactors and builders of a new and more thriving community.
The volunteers need guidance and leadership, and more and more of that is coming to life through people such as Doug Bishop with the awesome organization that builds trips to Washington, D.C., for all our veterans. Again, perhaps not totally volunteer, but many people do not realize the tremendous job that has been accomplished through the great leadership of Major and Mrs. Miles with the Salvation Army and its long line of volunteer workers. Many more examples also could be listed with these.
Take a hard look around, people of the Newton community. Even new industries coming to town cannot solve all our problems. However, even new industries looking to move in take into consideration the attitude of the general public in making their decisions.
There is always a neighbor who could use a helping hand, and many will pay it forward in return. I encourage each of you to raise your attitude to the next level, and you will find dividends that you have never even dreamed as a possibility.
